چکیده

Objective We previously conducted a genome-wide association study for AIS susceptibility in Japanese and identified a SNP, rs11190870 near the LBX1 gene on chromosome 10q24.1 that showed significant association. The association is replicated in other populations of different ethnicities. However, it is controversial whether rs11190870 is also associated with severity of the scoliosis curve in AIS. To examine whether rs11190870 is associated with curve severity of AIS in Japanese, we investigated the association using 2,191 (2,068 female and 123 male) subjects.

Association between Common Variants near LBX1 and Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Replicated in the Chinese Han Population

BACKGROUND Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is one of the most common spinal deformities found in adolescent populations. Recently, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) in a Japanese population indicated that three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), rs11190870, rs625039 and rs11598564, all located near the LBX1 gene, may be associated with AIS susceptibility [1]. This study suggests...

Comparison of Respiratory Muscle Electromyography between Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis and Healthy Subjects

Purpose: Scoliosis is one of the most common spinal deformities that affect chest wall mechanics. Scoliosis results in ventilator disorders and respiratory muscle weakness. However, the mechanism of these disorders is still unknown. The main objective of this study was to identify the intensity of respiratory muscles activity in patients with idiopathic scoliosis compare with healthy indi...

Candidate gene analysis and exome sequencing confirm LBX1 as a susceptibility gene for idiopathic scoliosis.

BACKGROUND CONTEXT Idiopathic scoliosis is a spinal deformity affecting approximately 3% of otherwise healthy children or adolescents. The etiology is still largely unknown but has an important genetic component. Genome-wide association studies have identified a number of common genetic variants that are significantly associated with idiopathic scoliosis in Asian and Caucasian populations, rs11...

Replication study of estrogen receptor 1 XbaI polymorphism in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) Caucasian population

Background It has been suggested that XbaI single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) (A/G rs934099) in estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1) may be associated with curve severity in Japanese AIS patients [1] and with both curve severity and predisposition for AIS in Chinese patients [2]. However, replication studies have not confirmed these findings [3]. The role of the XbaI ESR1 polymorphism rs9340799 in AIS ...

Haplotypes at LBX1 Have Distinct Inheritance Patterns with Opposite Effects in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a clinically significant disorder with high heritability that affects 2-4% of the population. Genome-wide association studies have identified LBX1 as a strong susceptibility locus for AIS in Asian and Caucasian populations. Here we further dissect the genetic association with AIS in a Caucasian population. To identify genetic markers associated with AIS ...
